revs high?
when i start it up it seems to rev for a minite or 2 then dies down and goes like its idling but if i drive before it dies down and put clutch in its still reving quite high ?? any ideas

Have you tried our favourite usual suspect? The ICV?

the high revving form cold start is normal - its just the auto-choke, but if you get high revving when you press the clutch in its either the ISCV or a vacume leak, my money is on the latter

would vaccum leak cause high fuel consumption but it doesnt do it for long maybe 1 or 2 mins... mind u when bonnets up and u rev u can hear shh shhh shhh when u push pedal my brother reckons this is the spring thing on the throttle cable??

mines petrol but if it has this how do i clean it??

ah, my bad, if that picture if of your engine then the ICV is number 3

i had the exact same problem with my gti, cleaned the icv but it was still doing it,turned out it was the crank breather pipe,it had got weak in some areas and with the vacume going through the pipe,it was causing the pipe to suck itself closed and causing a blockage, got a new breather from fords for £9.70p, checked how strong the pipe was by squeezing it but i couldnt squash it as it was really strong,my old one i could flatten it with finger and thumb. its perfect now iv changed the breather pipe.
